Dr Dyssell completed his undergraduate training at UCT Medical School in 1982, and his paediatric training at Wits University.  He qualified as a paediatrician in 1990, receiving the Fellowship of the College of Paediatricians (FCPaeds (SA)) in 1990 and M. Med (Paediatrician) in 1994.

He was a consultant in the Department of Paediatrics at Wits Medical School until 1993.

Since 1993 he has been in private practice at Vergelegen Mediclinic in Somerset West, Western Cape, South Africa.

He is the current Chairman of the Western Cape Independent Practitioners Association (IPA).
